The University was founded in 1951 by Donald Grantham, a World War II veteran, who wanted to help his fellow former service members build a better future for themselves upon returning to civilian life. Over the years, Grantham has undergone a major transformation. What started as a traditional "brick and mortar" school specializing in radio electronics eventually became a leader in online education, serving a global student population.

Grantham has always strived to make its students the number one priority. A dedicated student advising team provides students with one-on-one support, motivation and encouragement. Faculty, who receive training in military culture, adult learning strategies and online best practices, are adept at sharing both book knowledge and real-world, practical experience that students can apply to their chosen career.
All students have access to the Student Advising and Learning Center (SALC) and Career Services. SALC provides online study resources, including math learning modules, writing modules, tutorial videos, and student success strategies. SALC also has one-on-one tutoring and writing and math labs where students can receive feedback on assignments before they are submitted for grading.
Grantham University's Career Services department provides professional development tools and one-on-one career search assistance to help students and graduates secure employment after graduation. Services include targeted employment research; assistance with professional branding; help with creating custom resumes, cover letters and portfolios; interview preparation; and access to a virtual job portal, Grantham Pathways.
